How to scan paper to PDF without uploading it

  1. 1Select Take a photo on your phone, or add photos you already have. Nothing is sent anywhere.
  2. 2Check each page's outline; if needed, use Adjust corners and drag each corner onto the page.
  3. 3Choose a look (color, grayscale, or black and white for text) and a page size.
  4. 4Select Create PDF. Pass it to OCR PDF to make its text searchable.

What happens to your file

Each photo is straightened and cleaned up inside this browser tab, and the camera is your phone's own app, not the site. Your photos are never uploaded, and the working copies are cleared when you close the tab.

How do I get the best scan?

Lay the page flat on a darker surface, in even light, and keep all four corners in the photo. The edges are then found by themselves; you can always drag the corners to correct them.

Does the site use my camera?

No. "Take a photo" opens your phone's own camera app; the site only receives the photo you take. The site itself has no access to the camera.

Which look should I choose?

Black and white is the sharpest and smallest for typed or handwritten text. Grayscale suits pages with pictures. Color keeps stamps, signatures and highlights in their colors.

Can I search the text of my scan?

A scan is a picture of the page, so its text cannot be searched or copied at first. Send the PDF to OCR (under "Use in another tool") to make its text searchable.

Are my photos uploaded to be scanned?

No. The photos are processed in your browser and the PDF is made on your device.

Does Scan to PDF work offline?

Yes, after you've made one scan while online. The tool is saved then, and later scans run without internet.
